Now with social media eclipsing the search engine, sites like Facebook are the internet. Is this a lame attempt on Google’s side to stay relevant? Will Buzz contribute to your social media strategy or be a big waste of time?

Some decent time has passed since its launch. Now we can take a proper look at Google Buzz.

The Relevance of Google Buzz with Social Media

While Google Buzz is clearly Google’s way of evolving, the actual functionality of the new integrated system is well – not very user friendly. Though this seems like the next logical step for Google, it will take people a long time to decide to switch from sites like Facebook and Twitter, if that ever happens at all.

Sure, the odd messing around with it now and then, but as far as substituting or competing with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – it falls a little flat, or does it?

Instead of coming up with something new or revolutionary (something we like to think Google knows about) they chose to steal everyone else’s idea on what social media is, and then stacked it all together in a pile, and chucked it in the Google Buzz fire.

Is Google Buzz Worth Noticing?

Yes! Of course it is, we are talking about Google here, they’re no small fish. Despite the fact that they will have to work incredibly hard to siphon off users from Facebook and Twitter, they have the financial backing and could do it if they tried hard enough.

Google Buzz connects you with Twitter, Flickr, Picasa and Google Reader. The privacy updates have been improved (a bit) and you can bang in a new status update while you check your email.

Not to mention its excellent integration with mobile technology. Essentially Google Buzz has become a social media platform in its own right. And where there’s a platform and a community, there’s money to be made for your business. Does using Buzz improve your SEO ranking? Yes it does.

Can it be a valuable tool for online promotion and reputation management? Yes again. With multiplatform publishing, real time search and possibilities streaming in for savvy marketers, if you haven’t got a Google Buzz profile, then get one as soon as you can.

People are already leveraging their other social media pages using Google Buzz’s excellent indexing system. They also have a great advertising program, but of course we’d expect nothing less from Google.

In fact all the social media strategy functionality from the other sites you’ve been working with – are present on Google Buzz. We love it, and you should too! Is it still invading people’s privacy, a little bit yes. Will it storm the Facebook castle? Not so sure…you decide.
